You start from the small fishing village of Alvor. Paddle with our experienced guide through the quiet estuary lagoon of Ria de Alvor to a sandbank in the middle of the lagoon. Watch how traditional local fishermen collect shell-fish. Enjoy a game of beach volley, searching shells or purely the sunshine.
The lagoon is tidal what means there will be clean (swimming) water every day and all year round with just little current. The estuary lagoon from the Ria de Alvor is a nature protected area, especially known for its variety of emigration birds and its wetlands.
Since this tidal inland water is shallow and has sandy bottoms, the conditions are perfect for leisure experiences like canoeing and swimming or just relaxing. In the summer there will be a fairly strong NW wind starting in the late afternoon almost every day. The mornings however are quiet and with just little winds. Therefore we offer these trips from 10.00 - 13.00 hr.
Our experienced multilingual guide will canoe with you and will head for a deserted sand bank in the middle of the lagoon. Here you can play beach tennis or volleyball. There are always rare and beautiful shells to be found. You might as well just relax and get tanned on the sandbank, while you watch little Portuguese fishing boats passing by, bringing home their catch of the day.
On our trips the guides teach all required skills along the way! We provide all the equipment and our pace is relaxed. There is plenty of time to swim, to explore or just to take a nap!
Fitness level required nº 1, difficulty A.
UPDATE 2012: the canoeing activity in Alvor will only be available from 1st April 2012.
