Description

This slightly shorter walk will lead you from Rocha Brava along the coast to Benagil. Just after Benagil we will turn inland and make a large loop through the interior, back to Rocha Brava.

Meeting point

The start and finish is at the coffee shop located at the entrance from Rocha Brava Resort. By car, from the centre square in (Praia de) Carvoeiro, turn to the East and follow the road ´Estrada do Farol´ uphill to Rocha Brava. Rocha Brava is well sign-posted around Carvoeiro. See here a map.

Terrain

Although this walk is a bit shorter, it is not the easiest of our walks. From the cliff tops, we will descend 2 times down to the beach, and of course we´ll face an uphill there. Later there is one more small climb. The route follows frequently small single tracks with stones and gravel. This is one of the most beautiful parts of the Algarve.

Public transport

From the West-Algarve (Portimão & Lagoa)

The bus to Praia de Carvalho is the only bus passing at Resort Rocha Brava (not on Sunday & holidays). This bus line starts from Portimão at 09h00, leaves from Lagoa Bus Terminal at 10h00 and from Carvoeiro Centre at 10h10. Rocha Brava will be reached at 10h18 and is the 2nd last bus stop.
To return from Rocha Brava back to Carvoeiro, Lagoa and Portimão, take the bus at 14h02 or 15h52 (both daily).

From the West-Algarve (Lagos)

From Lagos Bus Terminal (map) you can depart at 08h30 to arrive at 09h05 at Lagoa Bus Terminal. This bus will stop briefly in Portimão, but stay seated and continue to Lagoa Bus Terminal. In case the bus arrives on time in Lagoa (!), you could have a coffee in the charming village centre, for example at the Rua Marquês de Pombal (map).
Catch the 10h00 bus towards Praia do Carvalho and leave the bus at 10h18 at Rocha Brava, which is the 2nd last stop.
To return from Rocha Brava back to Lagoa Bus Terminal, take the bus at 14h02 or 15h52 (both daily - 20 minutes journey). At Lagoa Bus Terminal switch bus and catch the 16h05 or 16h45 to Lagos. See Eva-Bus times.

From the East-Algarve (Albufeira, Guia & Amação de Pera)

From Albufeira Bus Terminal (map & bus map) the bus departs (Monday - Friday, except holidays) at 08h55.
It stops at 09h10 in Guia at the “chicken” roundabout with the N125 (map) and makes a stop in Armação de Pera (map) at 09h20. Check here the Eva-Bus times and various lines.
It will arrive at Lagoa Bus Terminal (map) at 09h30. Catch here the 10h00 bus towards Praia do Carvalho and leave the bus at 10h18 at Rocha Brava, which is the 2nd last stop.
To return from Rocha Brava back to Lagoa Bus Terminal, take the bus at 14h02 or 15h52 (both daily). At Lagoa Bus Terminal switch bus and catch the 15h10, 15h35, 16h20 or 16h55 bus back towards Albufeira. Check here the Eva-Bus return times.

Participation

Check out our Events Page on Facebook for the dates that we will walk from Rocha Brava/ Carvoeiro. There is no need to book. Just show up 15 minutes before the start of the walk. Only in case the Portimão/Lagoa Bus is delayed we will wait 15 minutes.
In the rare event that the weather forces us to cancel or postpone the walk, we will communicate through our Events Page on Facebook. “Like” our Page and you will be updated automatically in the future.
