Rural Walk in the Serra de Monchique

Get away from the mass holiday hotspot and enjoy a full day's walk in the quiet green Serra de Monchique. There is nothing better than warm sun on your back and the scent of the wild flowers, the eucalyptus and pine trees. The century old donkey tracks and paths are still there leading to an amazing walk. On this superb hiking tour you experience a bright coloured region. You walk along fig trees, orange groves, eucalyptus, cork forest, almond trees, medronho and picturesque views on the valley.

Old trails and Quiet gravel roads

Enjoy lunch in the village of Monchique, in a restaurant café at the centre square in Monchique. You will enjoy an individual chicken salad, a king size sandwich of your choice, one drink and one coffee at a reserved table on the terrace.
Hiking is the perfect way to truly experience the area and without damaging the environment.

At 10AM we meet at the Galp petrol station at the entrance of Monchique. Here you can easily park your car, have a coffee or use the toilet.
We walk through the village of Monchique, by the old convent, In the afternoon you continue your guided hike into south direction. Where the walk ends in Caldas de Monchique at around 16.00 hr. Here a car or van will be waiting to bring you back to Monchique.

The total walking distance is of 11 km, and the net walking time is more or less 3 ½ hours and leads you from Monchique to Caldas de Monchique
