Morning – Itinerary of the Downhill Cycling Trip

Algarve Downhill Cycling Trip from Foia above the clouds

We’ll rendezvous in the charming village of Figueira, where the salty ocean breeze tickles your senses and the quaintness of the town enchants you.

Usually, pick-up from here is at 9.30, however, if you were to book a Private Tour, we´re flexible in the start time.

From Figueira, you will be transferred in our van(s) to the highest peak in the Algarve where the bike tour starts.

After a short safety briefing, we will begin our descent to the coast. Cycling at a relaxed pace, without strain. It’s an easy-going ride. Downhill all the way.

After our calm, effortless descent through the spectacular nature of Monchique, we’ll head further south.

For the last leg of our journey, we will cycle cross-country, through beautiful valleys, on quiet tarmac roads. We are usually greeted by one of the local shepherds as we cycle past charming little farms.

Free Medronho Tasting

free medronho tasting on the Algarve Downhill Cycling Trip

Medronho, known as Portuguese firewater, is a traditional spirit derived from the fruit of the strawberry tree (Medronheiro), abundant in Portugal’s Algarve region. This potent liquor boasts a distinct flavour profile, evoking ripe fruit with a touch of sweetness and a fiery edge. Produced through fermentation and distillation, it yields a clear, high-alcohol content liquid.

Esteemed for its cultural significance, Medronho is savoured as a digestif or reserved for special occasions, reflecting the region’s culinary heritage. You’ll have the opportunity to visit a medronho farm, witness the distillation process, and sample a small taste. Bottles are available for purchase to take home as a souvenir.

Light lunch is included

lunch is included on the Algarve Downhill Cycling Trip

Included is a light lunch in the typical mountain village of Casais.

In summer we are served fresh gazpacho, salad and freshly squeezed orange juice.

Outside the warm summer months, we usually enjoy tasty tuna pasta, salad and juice.

All produce is locally sourced and organic, mostly home grown by the owners of the Taverne in the village.

Should you have any dietary requirements, feel free to mention that at the time of booking and we accommodate that.

Flamingoes

Except for the hot summer months, we usually end our trip on gravel roads that lead to the fertile estuary lagoon of the Ria de Alvor. Here we are often lucky enough to spot flamingos or spoonbills.

This is an extra 6 km loop with one small hill to climb, and you don´t need to follow, feel free to stay back in the bakery for a refreshing drink.
