The 7 Hanging Valleys Trail
Die 7 Hanging Valleys Trail is a breathtaking coastal hiking route in southern Portugal’s Algarve region. Renowned for its dramatic cliffs, golden beaches, and azure waters, the trail stretches approximately 6 kilometres (3.5 miles) West of Praia da Marinha. You will be treated to panoramic views of limestone cliffs, hidden coves, sea arches, and iconic rock formations.
Ideal for nature lovers and adventure seekers, the trail offers a perfect blend of scenic beauty, geology, and tranquillity, making it one of Europe’s most celebrated walking routes.
What are ´hanging valleys`?

Itinerary
We´ll drive first to the rock formations from Algar Seco. After a short introduction, the guide will lead you on foot to the hidden caves and natural rock pools.
Nach einer short drive, we´ll continue walking to the famous Benagil Cave, which we can admire from above, standing atop the rocks.
We´ll continue zu Fuß to the beach of Praia da Marinha, where a 30-minute free time will be used to collect the van(s) before heading back.
You will return to Albufeira looking back at a unique 5-hour experience. There are limited spaces; please book in advance.
Meeting Point – Start & End
Die central meeting point is at the McDonalds in Albufeira (siehe Karte). There is a tour at 09h00, which returns at 14h00. From March onwards, an extra tour departs Albufeira at 14h30, which returns at 19h00-19h30.
If you are staying near Albufeira Marina, Galé or Armação de Pera, please let us know when you book, and we will be able to collect you from there. We will confirm the exact pickup time by SMS or WhatsApp the evening before.
Return transfers in mini-van(s)
Enjoy the Seven Hanging Valleys whilst visiting the region, even if you have no access to transport . Let us pick you up in our airconditioned mini-van(s).
After the walk, you will be transferred back by the walking leaders.
The complete experience will last 5 hours. The transfer in the comfortable mini-van takes approx. 30-40 minutes, depending on traffic.

The walking guides on The Seven Hanging Valleys Walk
The guides are qualified Portuguese tourist leaders, born and bred in the Algarve. Their interests and passions are geography, nature conservation und Portuguese history. Most have studied either Nature Sports, Active tourism, Biology or Eco Tourism at a local Portuguese University.

The tracks are covered in gravel, stones and not always even.
As the name of the walking suggests, there are 7 valleys, which vary in depth between 20 – 50 metres (65 – 165 feet). So count on some climbs.

On arrival by foot in Benagil, we can have a coffee break on the beach. A short boat tour from Benagil Beach leads you into the Benagil Cave.
The walk continues to Praia da Marinha, which is, according to the Michelin guide, one of the most beautiful beaches worldwide.
After visiting Praia da Albandeira, the tour ends at the chapel on top of the rocks at Senhora da Rocha.
Meeting Point – Start & End
We suggest meeting at the Alfazinha lighthouse near Carvoeiro. From here, we´ll be walking East, there are four destinations:
- Benagil (2 – 3 km), perhaps combined with a boat tour into Benagil Cave and lunch in one of the local restaurants
- Praia da Marinha (4 – 5 km)
- Praia da Albandeira (6 km)
- Senhora da Rocha (8 – 9 km)
Local lunch option on Private Tour
At Praia de Benagil we can stop for a coffee and cake. On the Full Day Private Tour, we can have lunch on the beach, buy fruit on top of the rocks, or enjoy a lunch pack on one of the benches overlooking the coastline with its golden cliffs and rocks.
In the afternoon, you will continue your guided hike east. We´ll walk along the coast with breathtaking views. Most of the tour will show you stunning views of the valleys and towards the coast.
