The Guided Trans Algarve MTB Holiday For Groups
If you want to organise a guided MTB holiday in the sun then you’ve come to the right place. Over the past 15 years we’ve entertained many groups of mountain bike enthusiasts and have developed the Guided TransAlgarve MTB Holiday to be adaptable to groups of all skill levels.
The Trans-Algarve, also known as GR13, is established on the old pilgrims’ route, the Via Algarviana. It runs from Monte Gordo, at the Spanish border, through the interior of the Algarve, to Sagres. The iconic lighthouse of Cape Saint Vincent marks the most south-westerly point of Europe and also the final point on our trip.
Our bi-lingual Portuguese MTB guide will lead you over double and single tracks, through fields and woodlands. The daily distance is on average 60-70km, with a final push of 85km on the last day. Although this last day is mostly downhill from the Serra de Monchique to Sagres, there is still a climb of around 1000 high metres to cover.
Three dinners are included in your package and will be served in the hotel, as well as a nutritious breakfast every morning.
Custom-Made Algarve MTB Holiday
Although this is a guided week, you are free to ride alone at your own pace using our detailed GPS routes if you wish. Or you can join other like-minded riders with similar interests and travel in a group.
For extra ease and safety, a back-up 4×4 vehicle will always be nearby to offer support if needed. It will also deliver your luggage on to your next destination.
The car has a bike pump, toolset and some spare parts for any little fixes that need to be made. It functions as a broom car too, if you find yourself needing a little break from riding. The 4×4 can carry 6 bikes on the roof, and we can also bring a bike trailer for additional space.
You can start your trip on any day of the week, any week of the year. However, in our opinion, it is too hot between mid-June and the beginning of September to ride the Via Algarviana. And as it’s the peak holiday season, accommodation availability is low and prices are high.
Hire A Hard-Tail Giant, KTM E-Bike, Or Bring Your Own
The bikes we use are Giant 29ers with 2×10 or 3×10 gears and hydraulic disc brakes. A helmet and a bottle holder are provided. If required we can mount SPD pedals, but please bring your own shoes.
We work together with a large KTM dealership so we can supply you with a KTM Macina Race 29er E-bike if you’d like. Please contact us for more details.
Alternatively, feel free to bring your own bike. We’ll transport your bike from the airport to your first hotel and keep your bike box in storage for the week.
